IT’S BACK AGAIN!! This year’s ODAC Family Barbeque 2009 proved itself to be yet another event worth looking forward to after the ODAC Family Day held in September. This year’s barbeque, organized by ODAC trek committee, was held on the 23rd of October in the open space outside the NTU School of Biological Sciences.
This is the night where all of ODAC’s family members come together under one roof to celebrate and enjoy themselves thoroughly before the beginning of the arduous examination period. In response to the theme of this year’s barbeque, Colourful Tourist, everybody that night came dressed with interesting outfit and accessories of vibrant colours and designs. Coupled with the illuminating decorations and the two vivacious emcees that we had for night, there was the electrifying playlist of songs that kept the atmosphere upbeat and hyped throughout the entire event.
The highlights of the night were the exciting lineup of games and barbequing, which we all had a great time with. Under the influence of the romantic moonlight and superb atmosphere, everybody just couldn’t help but to temporary put their worries aside to truly enjoy and immerse themselves in a four full hours worth of fun and laughter. The event was indeed the centre of attraction that night, catching the attention of students and professors who happened to experience the overflowing energy radiating from us.
Recharged and revitalized, I believe we now have all the energy we need to power us till the end of exams before we set
ourselves free in the wide & refreshing spaces of the Outdoors once again!

On 12 Sep 2009, 20 adventurers from the NTU Outdoor Adventure Club 14th Management Committee set out on a journey to scale Gunung Datuk in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.
Although Gunung Datuk is only 870m in height, the intial slopes proved to be challenging for the adventurers eager to reach the top. Shirts and backpacks were soaked in sweat just 30mins into the ascent and the inclined terrain seemed never-ending. As they trudged over roots after roots, boulders after boulders, the big boulder that marks the final trail to the campsite finally came into view!
The arduous trek was definitely worth the effort as the view from the summit was undoubtedly breathtaking. Looking far out into the horizon, fatigue and worries were forgotten but the cliff edges, that were a few steps away, kept everyone on their toes.
Dinner was a spread of Nasi Lemak, Bee Hoon, Soup, Nuggets, Potato Wedges, Keropok, Canned Fish, Peanut Soup and Nata De Coco. The sumptuous meal was meticulously prepared by the adventurers for the adventurers. They had their fill before heading to the summit once again for the night view.
The landscape was illuminated by the city lights which presented a different perspective to the view earlier that afternoon. The night was spent taking in the sights and star-gazing on the boulders. The adventurers also lighted up the night sky with firecrackers and lanterns in the spirit of the upcoming lantern/mooncake festival.
The trek to Gunung Datuk was a first for most of the adventurers and it sure was memorable in many ways. It was also the first time these 20 adventurers trekked together, may there be more adventures ahead for them, and may they bring more adventures to you!
