Pumpfest 2009 is the twelfth year that NTU ODAC has organised the local bouldering competition for all staff and students of NTU and public, and has brought the urban adrenaline of defying gravity to all participants again. Located in the radical sports mall, Velocity@Novena, the Pumpfest committee were able to present 4 majestic walls, larger dimensions than any other local bouldering competitions as of yet, to bring forth a different experience for all participants.
Over a spread of 3 days, participants from Novice, Intermediate, and Open categories get to battle gravity and their limits, to emerge champions among their competitors. Participants too get an opportunity to execute team spirit and work out strategies when they joined the team category, and ODAC members got to have a taste of what bouldering is all about when they participated in the Fun Climb category, all in the name of passion and fun.
This year, the Pumpfest committee has planned additional activities this year to raise climbing awareness and stir climbing interest in school campus itself. Together with University Mountaineering Club, climbing workshops were organised for all staff and students of NTU, where they learn how climbing is not brute sport, but learn the technical side of climbing and try all other forms of climbing like bouldering and speed climbing.
It is also an honour that Pumpfest 2009 has been chosen as one of the competitions for the National Bouldering League organised by the Singapore Climbers’ Association, to choose the best among all Open category climbers as representative for Singapore Climbers in overseas competitions.
On behalf of Pumpfest committee, I would like to thank the main committee for the continuous mental, physical and moral support; the seniors that provided invaluable advices and help throughout the way; business managers for putting up an awesome list of sponsors and prizes for the event; ALL subcommers, friends, and everyone who helped out for the event. Really a million thanks from the heart to all!
